Hawkstone Bowl final
Paul Downward reigns supreme
The Hawkstone Bowl final was played between Paul Downward and Rowley Jones on Saturday morning, both players brought their respective bag carriers to assist as necessary in their quest for victory.
The first two holes went as expected, the 3rd. proved a little more entertaining as Paul began to demonstrate his chipping prowess. Just before arriving at the 4th tee Rowley returned to his blonde bagman, still stood by the trees at the 3rd, to acquire a club to tee off with. It proved a decisive play with Rowley winning the hole. The 5th gave another opportunity for Paul to practice his chipping after Rowley's miracle shot through a 12" gap in the trees. After some fine green reading by Paul's caddy Steve, Paul took the 9th to get back to just 1 down at the turn.
Fortunes properly changed on the 12th. With Rowley's Tee shot enjoying the water, Paul replied with a fine strike which finished next to the pin to get to all square . On the next two 'shot' holes Paul took advantage.
The ebb and flow didn't stop however, suffice to say, Paul went dormy going up the 18th and with a fine drive and approach shot hitting the middle of the green the match was finally won! Congratulations to both players for a good game!
