As we enter the autumn period, please find below the relevant competition information for the next few weeks.
SUNDAY COMPETITIONS
All Sunday competitions from now up until the Captain’s Drive-In 2026 will be mixed competitions and will therefore be open to all members with Sunday playing rights. Ladies please note that if you play in the ‘alternative day’ reserved tee times you will be entering the Ladies Tuesday Competition. You MUST use the Sunday competition times if you are entering the mixed Sunday competition.
Whilst course conditions allow, we will continue to play competitions that are acceptable for handicap. You will be advised when this changes.
For the moment, Men will play Sunday Competitions from the White Tees and Ladies will play from the Red Tees. Entrants should use the gender relevant scorecards to record their scores. Once the Greens Committee decide to shorten the course and the white tees are removed, all competitors will play from the same tees.
Commencing 5th October 2025 for five weeks, the Sunday competition will be the Autumn Shootout. This will end on 2nd November 2025 with the Shootout Shotgun Final. Places in the Shotgun Start will be allocated on merit based on the best two cards from the first four rounds. The overall winner will be decided using the best two qualifying scores plus the score from the final round. If there is a tie, the winner will be decided on countback using the final round. Ladies please note that if there is an alternative day tee time, this will follow the shotgun competition.
MEN’S TUESDAY COMPETITIONS
The Tuesday competitions will continue as 18-hole competitions until the clocks go back on 26th October. Following that and commencing Tuesday 28th October, the Tuesday Competitions will be over nine holes if we are lucky enough to remain able to run qualifying competitions or over ten holes once qualifying competitions have ended.
Please be aware that during the week commencing 13th October, there will be course works mainly on holes 2, 17 & 18 and various holes will be closed at various times.
In conjunction with the Green Committee, who will decide which holes are in play on Tuesday 14th October, all competitors will play the same course. The competition on this date will not be acceptable for handicap.
PREFERRED LIES AND THE USE OF MATS
You will be informed in plenty of time once it is necessary to introduce preferred lies. We can and will continue to run qualifying competitions whilst preferred lies are allowed on closely mown areas only.
Once conditions change significantly and mats, rake & place and preferring in the rough is necessary, qualifying competitions will cease. You will be advised of exactly what you are and are not allowed to do in competition golf as the situation changes. What you choose to do in social golf outside of competitions is entirely up to you.
GENERAL PLAY SCORES
Whilst qualifying golf is still played, you are allowed to enter general-play scores. Once conditions render qualifying golf unplayable, the courses will be switched off digitally and you will no longer be able to enter these scores. We will advise you when this happens in further bulletins.
PLAYING FROM THE WHITE TEES
Some members have been seen playing from the white tees on Sundays but have not entered the Sunday competition. This is not allowed as the White Tees and the reserved tee times are for competition golf only. The only exception to this rule would be when you are marking for another pair in a 4bbb competition where your partner has failed to turn up. Any member found to be abusing the competition tee times and the white tees in this manner will be barred from playing competition golf for four weeks.
MYSTERY 2’S COMPETITION RESULTS
The finals Day Stableford competition saw only 9 2’s scored and very surprisingly all of the 2’s were scored on either the 10th (4) or the 13th (5) hole. The hole drawn was Hole 10 and Paul Wilson, Aaron Corner, John Hughes and Daniel Ansboro win a sleeve of ProV1’s each.
The Poppy Day Competition on 14th September recorded 14 x 2’s. The mystery hole drawn was hole number 8. There were 3 x 2’s on the 8th and Mark Roberts, Paul English and Joe Thorold-Smith win 4 ProV1’s each
In the Autumn Foursomes competition on 21st September only three 2’s were recorded. The hole drawn was Hole 13. Lee Fielding, Barrie Lane, Ste Jackson & Alan Blumenow win 3 ProV1’s each
Our final mystery 2’s competition of the season was in the Winter 4BBB on 28th September. This competition witnessed fifteen 2’s. The mystery hole was again hole No 8. Congratulations to Craig Masters and Steve Murray who win 6 ProV1’s each.
The mystery 2’s competition has now ended for this year. We hope to bring it back for the 2026 season.
