MGA - Non-Conforming Tee
Non-Conforming Tee
Our attention has been drawn to the quality of the tee as shown in the picture
being used possibly during a competitive round of golf.
We have taken the matter to the Equipment Standards Department at The R&A
who have indicated that none of the manufacturers of this type of tee (most of
them are in the Far East) have submitted a sample of such tee so as it could be
approved (or otherwise) by The R&A.
The tees come in different colours and sometimes without the arrow being
printed but still with the arrowhead present. Manufacturers advertise these tees
as being good for Improved accuracy/reduced spin which contradict Rule 6.1 of
the Rules of Equipment which also states that a tee must not:
• be designed or manufactured in such a way that it could indicate line of play;
• unduly influence the movement of the ball.
Please understand that until such time that the manufacturers of these tees get
them sanctioned by The R&A and/or The USGA, these tees must be considered
as non-conforming. The penalty for the first breach during a round will be two
strokes with a disqualification for the second breach.
Yours in golf
