COURSE NEWS 14th DECEMBER
Blocked Drain Cleared
We continue with day to day understaffing, with just 3 men in this week due to holiday catchup and also being 1 man down, but this is winter and much of the routine work is diminished. The greens are now being cut weekly, not every day. This week we collected roughly the same amount of cuttings after a week as we might expect in a day in the summer. But the workload for Q1 next year is substantial.

Rainfall Monday - Friday was 18 mm, inevitably with more to come. The course is handling it well - helped by some prudent traffic protection.

The main work item this week was sorting out the blocked drain on 13. Gavin decided to have another go at clearing the main run in an effort to avoid having to relay it, and fortunately was successful. He had to dig down in more than one location to get drain rods in, and with a considerable amount of effort managed to clear it out. Now there’s some tidying-up to do! The cause of the problem remains, so we will put in an inspection chamber on the run to allow annual rodding out. It’s exactly what Gavin had to do in the copse behind the 8th tee a couple of years ago. Trees being what they are, in the future we can expect this problem to recur around the course.
