End of year presentation & prizegiving
At the end of a highly successful year for the juniors at Royal Jersey Golf Club 29 played in the RJ Pro Shop Competition on Sunday 21st December. This had been postponed from earlier in the year because of persistent and heavy rain on the scheduled date.

The winner with a fantastic score of 47 points was Oliver Jost from Jack Westmacott in second with 43 points and Oliver Bourke in third, also with 43 points. Oliver also won the gross prize with a 71 on count back from Aiden Wilson.

James Evans had generously sponsored the competition and he presented the Trophy and vouchers to the winners and runners up.

The end of season awards were then presented.

Winner of the Jason Howard Trophy for the most improved junior in 2025 was Ethan Scott who reduced his handicap index by 17.3 shots from 36.5 to 17.3.

The combined reduction of handicaps during 2025 for the juniors was 270.8 at an an average of over 6 per junior. At the beginning of 2025 there were 4 juniors who had single figure handicaps. Over the year this has increased to 10 juniors with single figure handicaps.

The Rookie of the Year Trophy was won by Oliver Jost who played in 13 junior competitions during the year and reduced his handicap from 40.6 to 28.3. Clearly, judging by his score in the Pro Shop competition, this is likely to be coming down further in 2026.

There are 9 junior competitions played at Royal Jersey which count towards a junior league based on finishing positions, and also to the eclectic trophies for the best gross and handicap scores.

The Junior League Trophy was won by Oliver Bourke who played in 8 of the competitions and scored 31 points from Henry Milan in second with 30 points from the 8 competitions he played.

The Hansford Trophy is awarded to the boy with the lowest gross eclectic scores. This was won by Aiden Wilson with a 66 from Ben Carvalho in second on countback from Jacob Townsend. Both scored 68.

The Ecclestone Salver is awarded to the junior with the best handicap eclectic scores. This was won by Henry Milan with a nett 49 from Jack McFarlane in second with nett 51 on countback from Oliver Jost, Joseph Roberts and Benjamin O’Mahony.

The Mundy Trophy for the girl with the lowest gross eclectic score was won by Chloe Cadoret with 75.

The La Grange Salver for lowest eclectic handicap score was retained by Eleanor Bourke with 54.

The Keites Cup is a league played for each week over the winter months over 9 holes. From November 2024 to February 2025 there were 12 rounds played. The best 6 stableford scores counted and the winner of the Trophy was Oliver Smith from Bertie Whitchurch in second place.

Two juniors recorded their first hole in one during 2026.

In her last year as a junior Chloe Cadoret holed out on the 8th hole on 24th May. Jacob Townsend made his hole in one on the 4th hole on June 22nd. Both received a momento to mark their achievements.

The final ‘award’ was made to Oliver Brown who was announced as the Junior Captain for 2026. The outgoing Junior Captain, Ben Carvalho, presented an engraved Royal Jersey medal to Oliver.
