What's been happening

We hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and New year, spending time with those nearest and dearest...
It was certainly a busy few weeks at the club, the tee sheet has never been so full over the Christmas break, the weather was also kind meaning lot's of golf was played. The bar and pro shop were kept busy, so thank you for your ongoing support of the club and it's facilities.
Unfortunately we have started the new year with a few closed days, which also affected the final Winter League qualifying round, which we were forced to cancel.
This has been down to freezing conditions, whereby the frost get's into the ground. As the temperature increases throughout the day the top surface (grass) begins to thaw but the sub surface (roots) remain frozen, walking on this surface then causes tearing to the grass/roots and long term damage.
We also had a light covering of snow on some greens (that still hasn't shifted) it had frozen on the surface of the greens meaning putting was impossible.
We opened Sunday for play because everything was frozen solid and there was no chance of freeze thaw.
As of today, we have had a further dusting of snow overnight which doesn't look to be moving anywhere until Wednesday at the earliest.
Fingers crossed for slightly warmer conditions mid-week and a return to golf...
For the first time in three years we managed to play the Overlander on New Years Day. 24 players braved the 10am shotgun start, I think everyone felt better for the fresh air and light exercise but I can't be sure! It's a great course and good fun playing in a larger group. Local knowledge definitely helps!

We have a social event planned for the last Friday or Saturday of every month during 2026, starting with our first social event of 2026 on Friday 30th January, QUIZ NIGHT!

TEE BOOKINGS
As many of you have noticed, the tee sheet on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays is increasingly busy. The pressure on times will ease as the daylight hours increase however until then I need your assistance! There are lots of times being booked and not used. PLEASE cancel any unwanted times....
As a reminder, we do not join groups up. If members can get into the habit of putting all players names into the time when you book it online, that will stop 'double' tee bookings.
GRASS TEES
The grass tees are out of play and therefore mandatory GUR. If your ball lands on a grass tee anywhere on the course you must take full relief, nearest point, no nearer the hole, this includes competition play.
Ladies can obviously play from the grass red tee of the hole in play but should exercise the above should thier ball land on a 'wrong' grass tee.
