Seaton Carew - Captain’s Winter Salver
By Mr Captain Russ
My first away day was held on Friday at a challenging links course at Seaton Carew for the Captain’s Winter Salver, our first major of the golfing year. The Club Professional gave an excellent explanation of the holes and playing conditions before we all took to the challenge.

The course was in excellent condition considering the recent inclement weather, especially the greens and tees.

Following the golf we all sat down to a first-class meal afterwards, the caterer remembering me from my days as CEO of Hartlepool FC, a nice touch.

At the presentation Dave Hartley claimed the trophy with an impressive 37 points on countback from Alan Fisher with Ian Preece just a point behind in 3rd.

The team AM-AM winners were Ron Scott, Neil Seaman, Ian Preece and Phil Prime with an impressive 124 points. Nearest pin winners, Glenn Fry, Noel Bateman, Ian Preece and longest drive Alan Fisher.

An excellent day overall and thanks to the 32 players who braved the tough conditions.

Here’s to the next away day, an exchange with Forest Pines on Friday 24th April, look out for the sheet in our new sports bar towards the end of March.
