The format is that of the 5 lowest handicappers available play their opponents off of Scratch in strict handicap order but not knowing their opponents’ handicap.
The Gorleston team consisted of Marie Norman, Jules Harbord, Gail Chapman, Pauline Phillips and Linda Atkins. The weather was warm and hardly a breath of wind, unusual for Gorleston at 11am but that only lasted for about 30 minutes as the breeze strengthened and normal conditions ensued.
There was a great friendly atmosphere on the Tee box as the matches got started and this extended around the individual matches as Ladies President and myself witnessed as we followed them round relaying current scores to all involved if they wished to know.
As a gentleman involved in a Ladies competition and knowing they like to keep certain things secret such as age, original hair colour and how many holes they won or lost by I’ll be discreet and just reveal the end result which quite possibly could also be in the headline but in this case it’s the exact result of Gorleston 3 & a 1/2 Southwold 1 & a 1/2.
Thanks to Ladies President, Vonnie Thornton for her support, Simon and his crew for the after-match refreshments and not forgetting the caddies, Jenny Watson and Jayne Needham.
(disclaimer, I have described myself as a gentleman, others may have other ideas)
