Andy Moulds, a member at Mersey Valley Golf Club, will ride the renowned “Way of the Roses” this summer – a demanding 170-mile route stretching from Morecambe Bay on the west coast to Bridlington sea front on the east. The ride will see him cross the country over three consecutive days, raising money for the captain’s charity, St Rocco’s.
Andy will set off at 8am on Friday 14 August from Morecambe, beginning a gruelling journey that tests both physical and mental endurance. Day one covers approximately 65 miles to Pateley Bridge, with a punishing 42 miles of uphill riding. Included in that is the infamous climb out of Settle, a brutal ascent that has featured in the Tour de Yorkshire and is known for pushing even experienced cyclists to their limits.
The second day brings another 65 miles from Pateley Bridge to Pocklington. While slightly less intense in elevation, the distance and cumulative fatigue make it a serious challenge as Andy continues eastward through the Yorkshire countryside.
The final stretch on Sunday 16 August sees him take on a 40-mile ride from Pocklington to Bridlington, finishing at the sea front and completing the coast-to-coast challenge.
What makes the effort even more remarkable is Andy’s starting point. He will begin training next weekend, having not been on a bike for more than two years. With just months to prepare, he faces a significant personal challenge to build the fitness and resilience needed for such a demanding ride.
All funds raised will go to St Rocco’s, a charity that provides essential care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses and their families. The organisation plays a crucial role in the local community, offering compassionate care when it is needed most.
Andy’s challenge is not just a test of endurance, but a determined effort to give back. As he prepares to take on the Way of the Roses, support from the local community will be key in helping turn every mile into meaningful support for St Rocco’s.
Let's show Andy some love!
