On 30 May at lunchtime, we will welcome Peter Deacon, who is flying in from California.
Peter emigrated to the United States in 1972 with his wife, Jennifer, the daughter of Philip Tipton, who served as the Professional at South Staffs in the 1930s.
Before that Philip was an unpaid apprentice to George Tuck (The Tuck Cup) at the age of 15.
Prior to the move, his wife Jennifer worked at Barclays Bank in Queen Square, where Richard Hilton remembers her.
Jennifer sadly passed away last year and has donated to the club a collection of historic memorabilia that had originally belonged to her father.
Peter’s brother-in-law, Harvey du Cros, is the great-grandson of the founder and financier of Dunlop Tyres and Dunlop Golf Balls. Peter also has extensive knowledge of the club, drawn from Philip’s records.
Much of this information will be documented and published in due course.
