We came out the traps well, with Malcolm, John and George all comfortably up after 5 holes. The other matches all remained tightly contested at the same stage.
By the turn Richard Johnston had stretched his lead to 4 up adding to the momentum of the early matches. Robbie Main - playing at no.8 after landing at Edinburgh Airport just hours earlier following a week’s holiday, was fighting hard but found himself 1 down at the halfway point.
Just ahead Greg was locked in a great tussle but managed to edge 2 up after 9, while Alan Ker established a similar 2 up cushion through 13.
Thankfully the early matches delivered with Malcolm 5&4, John Fraser 5&3, George Samson 4&2 and Richard Johnston 5&3 making it 4-0.
Further back Stuart Roberts was involved in a thriller heading down 17 all square. With Robbie falling 2 down after 12 we just needed one more point to get the overall team win over the line.
We didn’t need to wait long. Greg quickly confirmed a 2&1 victory and Stuart followed up with a brilliant 1 up win at the last, sealing it in style by sticking his tee shot on the 18th to just 5 feet.
Robbie fought hard but ultimately lost 3&2 leaving the final score 7-1. It was a relatively straightforward night in the end, which again helps our “goal difference”.
