A Few Words From Me
As my time as Competition Secretary comes to an end very shortly, I find myself wondering what comes next.
I’m not quite sure what access I will have going forward, or whether I’ll still be able to bring you my “Andy on Tour” newsletters. So, after this event, I honestly don’t know whether this will be one of my last newsletters or whether there will be a few more to come.
It’s been a strange week for me. My health has been a little up and down and, understandably, that has taken my thoughts away from the Club and also from following Andy as closely as I normally would. I even had to let Ella, Andy’s No. 1 caddie, down when I wasn’t able to submit a couple of handicap cards for her!
Health-wise, I know that the time is right to pass the Competition Secretary role on to someone new.
Ian Greenwood will be taking over, and I am sure he will do a great job for the Club. I know Ian is keen to do well, and I hope everyone will give him their support as he settles into what can be a very busy role.
I first became involved back in 2018, alongside dear Bill, and since then I have thoroughly enjoyed my years as Competition and Handicap Secretary.
There have certainly been a few challenges along the way, but I have enjoyed it all — the competitions, the handicaps, the results, the conversations with members and simply being involved in the day-to-day golfing life of Dereham Golf Club.
And although I know it is the right time to hand over, I suspect that in the months ahead I will probably miss it more than I realise.
So I would like to ask one big favour of the membership:
Please welcome Ian into his new role. Give him a chance to settle in, support him and give him the same encouragement that so many of you have given me over the years. I am sure he will serve the Club well.
Hopefully, this isn't my last newsletter.
But if it does turn out to be, then I simply want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me, helped me and shared the journey with me since 2018.
I wish Dereham Golf Club and all its members many more happy years ahead.
And finally, from your outgoing Competition Secretary...
May the golf be good, the putts keep dropping — and may all your handicaps come tumbling down!
Regards,
Steve Beckham
